“Jiye, listen to me. I can’t stay here to accompany you because I have another matter to attend to. Be obedient and listen to Doctor Mu. I will come to bring you home very soon, okay?” Su Qianxun almost burst into tears again. She was devastated by the fact that she could not stay behind to take care of her younger brother.
“Don’t worry. I will definitely not let something like that happen again. It was partly due to my negligence, as that nurse is not even from our department. I’ll get to the bottom of this matter and make sure that justice is served.” Mu Bai stared at her with a determined expression.
The young nurse was frightened when she heard that the incident would be reported to the police. However, she still refused to admit to her wrongdoing. “This is my first time applying the ointment on him, and I didn’t do anything to him. So, why would I be scared of the police?”
“Thank you, Doctor Mu. I have an urgent matter to attend to today, so I’ll be taking my leave first.” Su Qianxun did not have the courage to turn to look at her younger brother because she was afraid that she would not be able to bring herself to leave.
When Mu Bai saw how teary-eyed she was, he, too, blamed himself for what happened to Jiye. “Don’t worry. From now onwards, I’ll make sure that I’m the only one who have access to this ward. I won’t let anyone have the chance to go near Jiye anymore.”
“The unfortunate experience Jiye went through during the few days of his incarceration took a huge toll on his condition. Before that, he was already showing signs of improvement. Now he is back to how he used to be,” Mu Bai said regretfully.
Even though Su Qianxun was indignant, she had no choice but to check on her younger brother first. Su Jiye was shirtless, and there were still a lot of wounds, which were inflicted on him in the police station, on his body.
Su Qianxun wanted to chase after the young nurse, but Mu Bai stopped her. “Qianxun, leave this matter to me. I definitely won’t let her get away with this. It is more important to check on Jiye’s condition right now.”
Su Qianxun suddenly remembered that Ye Gu was waiting for her downstairs. She was already very grateful towards him for letting her see her younger brother, and she did not want to make things difficult for him.
As Su Qianxun gazed at him, teardrops trickled down her face like unstrung pearls. She walked towards him and reached out her hand to touch him. But Su Jiye recoiled, shivering like a frightened fawn.
Su Qianxun sat down on the bed and held her younger brother’s face in her hands, trying to make him raise his head to look at her. However, Su Jiye refused to look into her sister’s eyes.
“How do you expect me to calm down? She was bullying Jiye! She…” When Su Qianxun thought about what her younger brother just went through, tears trickled non-stop down her cheeks.
When Mu Bai walked into the ward and saw what happened, he stepped forward and pulled the two women apart. He pulled Su Qianxun towards himself and pushed the young nurse away.
“Silly girl, don’t mention it. I’m a doctor, and this is my responsibility.” There was a hint of tenderness in the depths of Mu Bai’s eyes as he gazed at Su Qianxun.
Su Qianxun hugged him and rose resolutely. She then looked at Mu Bai. “Doctor Mu, I’m begging you. Please don’t let anyone… bully my younger brother again.”
“Regardless of what she had done, we’ll report it to the police and let them deal with this matter.” Mu Bai fixed his determined gaze on Su Qianxun.
